Description
The master's degree in Gender and Peacebuilding begins from the standpoint that conflict, violence, and war have different impacts, meanings, and consequences for men and women. The program empowers students to analyze and understand the role that gender plays in the processes of peacebuilding, post-conflict reconstruction, and development. Students will develop a strong foundation in the prevention, management, and resolution of conflicts, including post-conflict interventions, from a gender perspective. It also offers a theoretical and practical approach to the field of gender studies using material drawn from the fields of Anthropology, Development Studies, Economics, History, Human Rights, Law, Natural Resources, Political Science, Religion, and Sociology.
The program is distributed over three terms (two semesters and one research term). Courses are taught in intensive three-week time periods requiring 45 hours of class work under the guidance of highly qualified professors and internationally recognized guest lecturers. During the final term, students are expected to complete a thesis of relevance to the subject for a total of 40 credits.
By the end of the program, students will be able to respond to the demands and challenges of their field as enter or return to work in government, multi-lateral or bi-lateral institutions, non-governmental organizations and private enterprises.
