The courses are designed to provide established and emerging leaders with the professional development opportunity to advance their leadership and management skills.  Through these courses, leaders of all professional backgrounds are equipped with critical skills to maximize their impact in their respective careers and in the pursuit of peace and justice.

  • Technology and Peace: The advent of new technologies has fundamentally changed the capacity for processing and exchanging information in the 21st century. NGOs and governments, and companies alike are just beginning to understand the potential that these tools and systems can have in analyzing and addressing a range of social problems.   • Skills for Nonprofit Leadership: This one-week course will cover the following topic areas: (1) Measuring impact and evaluating success, (2) Fundraising in the 21st Century, (3) Creating high performance teams, and (4) Exploring your leadership style (Negotiation and mediation, leadership styles and emotional intelligence). Course held on the University for Peace Campus in Ciudad Colon Costa Rica. December 2010.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility - Walking the Talk: This three-day workshop is designed for business executives and those interested in working in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). The workshop goes beyond the incentives for engaging in CSR and addresses the question, 'How does one implement it?' Course held on the University for Peace Campus in Ciudad Colon Costa Rica. November 25 - 27, 2010.

Training for your Company or Organization: UPEACE/US also delivers custom-designed training in conjunction with UPEACE Centre for Executive Education to companies or organizations that would like to provide a group of employees with a unique skills-building educational opportunity.

Customized courses are offered to cater to your organizational or professional needs. Course lengths can be shortened or extended to suit your availability, and additional components or themes can be incorporated into a course to cater to your requirements. Non Profit Leadership Short Course

Hosted by the UPEACE Centre for Executive and Professional Education

Dates and Topics: December 2010 on UPEACE campus in Costa Rica.

It will cover the following topic areas:
• Measuring impact and evaluating success
• Fundraising in the 21st Century
• Creating high performance teams
• Exploring your leadership style

(Negotiation and mediation, leadership styles and emotional intelligence)

Course Cost: The tuition fee includes all course materials, accommodation and most meals. For international participants, it is $1,950 for the full-day format (including field visits) and $1,350 for morning sessions.


Corporate Social Responsibility Short Course

Hosted by the UPEACE Centre for Executive and Professional Education

Dates and Topics: November 2010 on UPEACE Campus in Costa Rica

Topic Areas
• Incentives to engage in CSR
• Leading Frameworks for CSR
• Leadership in CSR
• CSR communications
• Engaging NGOs
• Case Studies of CSR in practice
• Formulating a CSR strategy

Workshop Costs: $1,500 for international participants. This tuition fee includes all course materials, 4 nights hotel accommodation, lunches and the closing reception. Special rate for Costa Rica-based participants of $750 (not including accommodation).
