Doing Good Business in Latin America
An understanding of the economic, social, and political context of a region is an essential pre-requisite for doing business successfully in a new geographic market.
This field-based course will allow students to visit a variety of organizations and view first-hand the factors that influence business decision-making. Meetings with the founders and top management of companies will provide students living examples of the challenges of growing and running profitable enterprises in Costa Rica. Students will be encouraged to think about the implications of cultural norms in environments where models and expectations are different from those in a U.S. context.
The course also emphasizes the theme of ‘doing good business’, whereby a corporate responsibility strategy can not only positively impact society but enable companies to enhance their brand, motivate employees and build customer loyalty.
