The working environment in the social sector is changing at a rapid rate. On one hand, the global financial recession poses a significant constraint for most nonprofits. On the other hand, new management approaches, fundraising via emerging technologies, growing partnership options with the private sector, and the wider acceptance of entrepreneurial activities all provide significant opportunities as well. As a result, leading a nonprofit organization in this climate is a dynamic and challenging endeavour.

Dates and Topics: December 14 - 18, 2009. It will cover the following topic areas:
• Measuring impact and evaluating success
• Fundraising in the 21st Century
• Creating high performance teams
• Exploring your leadership style
(Negotiation and mediation, leadership styles and emotional intelligence)

Course Instructor: The course is anchored by Mohit Mukherjee, Director of the UPEACE Centre for Executive Education and a faculty member at UPEACE. Prior to this position, he served as Education Programme Manager of the Earth Charter Initiative, an international nonprofit organization. He also spent four years in the private sector, at a top-tier international management consulting firm based in USA. He did his Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University, and his Master’s at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, also taking two courses at Harvard Business School on how to start up, manage, and grow social enterprises.

Course Cost: The tuition fee includes all course materials, accommodation and most meals. For international participants, it is $1,950 for the full-day format (including field visits) and $1,350 for morning sessions. Special rates are available for Costa Rica-based participants, not inclusive of lodging.
