malcolmxdayOn May 19, 2009, The US Association for the University for Peace (UPEACE/US) and Malcolm X Elementary School hosted a special event to celebrate Malcolm X's legacy and the achievements made by the students and teachers in building a strong, healthy and more peaceable community during the school year through UPEACE/US's DCPEACE program.

The event was held at Malcolm X Elementary School in Southeast Washington, DC at 1:30pm. Renowned global community organizer, Malaak Shabazz (Malcolm X's daughter) gave the keynote speech at the event in an effort to reinforce the progress made by the Malcolm X Elementary community in building peace. The Malcolm X Day Celebration in Peace highlighted the progress made by the Malcolm X Elementary community in partnership with UPEACE/US. Many distinguished guests participated in the event including DC community leaders, representatives from International NGOs, and other honored guests.
